Vision
- Families are assisted and supported in their maintenance of the family language at all levels.
- Having more than one language is recognised as an important asset for the society as a whole.
Mission
History
The initiative was born out of the multicultural choir Mothersong at the Loftus Community Centre in Leederville.
Young bilingual mothers, who realised their children were responding to home language conversations in English only, wanted to learn more about raising children with more than one language. They identified a need for support and better resources and wanted to connect with other bilingual families.
Bilingual Families Perth was founded in early 2002 and incorporated in December 2003. It is no longer registered for GST.
Bilingual Families Perth will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2012!
